A title "Blake Babies" was provided per poet Allen Ginsberg; following the reading at Harvard University, the class action (which experienced upright begun to play together) raised their paws & asked him to title their band. Ginsberg's guide was in all probability inspired per foremost half of William Blake’s Songs of Innocence and Experience. A title proved quite apt within regard to what was maybe a class action's virtually all distinctive aspect: a juxtaposition of Hatfield's pure, somewhat thinly & childlike (eventually emphatic) vocal quality by using typically amazingly acerbic lyrics.

Musically, a Blake Toddlers' songs come extremely melodic, by having instruments supporting like than covering vocals; therein way, their music lessens someplace between pop & rock & can be described when "power pop". Songs come usually pollyannaish & a class action's operate features each female (Hatfield) & male (Strohm) vocals, typically together harmonic or even within octaves. Strohm's intricate guitar picking style & preference for the "clean" (when opposed to distorted) guitar tone owes tremendously to R.E.M.'s Peter Buck, although Neil Young and punk rock are other important influences. Close hearing shows that Hatfield's bass swimming is particularly expressive, applying octaves & sliding tones to produce melodies likewise when anchoring bass lines. Songs come carefully constructed, by using sophisticated harmonic & dynamic shifts showing a resolutions of the band members' step by step training at a Berklee School of Music.

the Blake Toddlers toured a United States & Europe, in time achieving a moderate total of notice, particularly among auditor of college age world health organization were appreciative of the class action's "intelligent" brand of rock. A band's music (freed on the independent Northerly Carolina-depending record label Mammoth Records) received little airplay in commercial radio, instead existence played primarily on college radio stations.

A class action formally disbanded inside 1991 but reunited briefly in late 1999, performing a few shows around 1999 & 2000 & start of these survive U.S. tour inside 2001.

Below a band's breakup, Hatfield went in to fame as a solo creative person, & Strohm & Love continued to perform together in the Indiana-depending class action Antenna. Hatfield & Love keep around since worked together in the band Some Girls along with fellow musician Heidi Gluck.
